"Blue Ocean Strategy" field trips in Turkey and Kenya

From September to December 2011, Johnson & Johnson executives, INSEAD MBA participants, and AKDN team together on healthcare projects. In Kenya, they visited slums, hospitals, clinics, schools, a church, a camel mobile clinic, and a Maasai tribe among other visits.  18 participants conducted explorative observation in Nairobi, and up north in the Laikipia region, visiting Lewa Nature Conservancy, and the towns of Timau, Nanyuki and Meru.

After four months of work on the projects, the results were presented in December in Neuss, Germany to the J&J Board Members to much fan fare.  "The MBAs were fully integrated into the teams and made considerable contributions to the projects", says the coach, “it was difficult to tell who was working for J&J and who was an MBA student.  Mandira Ray (MBA 11J) was chosen by the team to present the project to an audience of 120 J&J employees, including the board.”

African Leadership Network - 2nd Gathering

Addis Ababa - 26-29 October 2011

Loïc Sadoulet, INSEAD Professor of Economics, attended the African Leadership Network Gathering in Ethiopia. It is a very inspiring network of upcoming African leaders, who call themselves “The 3rd Generation”. The first generation (Selassie, Nkrumah, etc.) was about independence, the second generation (Kagame, Obasanjo, etc.) was about stability, the third generation is about bringing African prosperity.

"If there is one legacy that the new generation of leaders can leave for Africa, it is a legacy of African prosperity. We need to create wealth on the continent so that we can fund our own healthcare, infrastructure, education, etc. Only with our own resources can Africans finally stand on their own feet"
